The bathroom was a highlight, with a heated floor and a tub where you can adjust the water temperature. Looking out at the garden from the bath was lovely, both day and night. They also supplied robes and pajamas, plus towels, toiletries, a hairbrush, and a shaver, so I barely needed to bring anything. We arrived early in Kyoto and they arranged luggage delivery. The house was already warm when we came in during late February, with outside temperatures around 5-8 degrees. It felt just right for three or four people. The duvet was fluffy, the kitchen utensils were enough for our needs, and there was even a cute welcome candy. The interior was pretty too. One of the best hidden gems we found for a Kyoto stay.

The garden view from the toilet and bath was the standout for us as a couple. It felt peaceful while bathing or showering, and being able to fine-tune both the floor and water temperature made it even nicer. We had an enjoyable, accident-free stay, and would consider returning or trying another of their Kyoto houses if the price were lower. There’s plenty provided, including an induction stovetop, coffee machine, and washer-dryer. Three air-conditioning units cooled the whole house, though each had its own remote and settings, which got annoying. The walls are thin, so we could hear neighbors, people walking, and vehicles late at night, and our sleep was disturbed a little. The unusual layout takes some getting used to. Stairs separate the main bedroom from the rest of the house, and it’d be easy to slip and hurt yourself if you aren’t careful. We also struggled to find a place for our luggage, though we only had two bags. Since the house is designed for up to four, a place for four suitcases would be a useful improvement. We chose this “hotel” in July 2023 after seeing it on Instagram and falling for the atmosphere.

The staff were friendly, helped with check-in, and could reserve restaurants for us if needed. Their English was limited, but Google Translate worked. They also helped arrange luggage transport to a partner sake company near Kyoto station. Holding a bag there until 7PM cost 550 yen. Checkout itself was very smooth. There were plenty of useful toiletries and supplies, including water, brushes, slippers, and robes. The shower room had a lovely view of the backyard garden, though I wouldn’t book just for that. Laundry was a hassle: one load in the washer-dryer took four hours. The place looked like the photos, but I hadn’t expected so many stairs and sharp edges. With our luggage, moving around felt like climbing through a children’s jungle gym or American Ninja Warrior. My friend slipped on an edge and fell down the stairs. The thin door let in outside conversations and passing cars, and the master (?) bed creaked badly, which wasn’t what I wanted from an expensive hotel. It’s in a quiet Kyoto neighborhood, so we had to be careful rolling our bags at night. I enjoyed the trip, but I’m unsure I’d stay here again. For convenience, I’d suggest somewhere near Kyoto Station. I booked after seeing the hotel in a viral Instagram video.

Check-in was quick and easy. The location worked really well too, in a quiet area but still close to everything.

The attendant comes to the inn to handle check-in, which felt reassuring at this time of year. The inner garden view from the bath made it feel open and was really lovely. The bed was spacious and I slept comfortably. The location was convenient as well, and I’d like to stay again.
