We got to enjoy a different traditional Japanese breakfast each morning, beautifully presented and delicious. Kayoko, our host, was incredibly kind and made us feel at home. She also had tea and sweets waiting for us each afternoon when we returned from our outings. The room was quiet and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. With metro and bus stops a short walk away, it was easy to get around Kyoto. A real gem, and it felt like a home away from home. We can’t recommend it enough!

I loved that I could come and go whenever I wanted with my own key. The house has two guest rooms, one upstairs and one on the first floor, and each has its own lock. Kayoko-san was such a warm, welcoming host. She made beautiful breakfasts every day and gave us wonderful restaurant and shop recommendations. The room was spacious, clean, and beautiful, with a cosy fire oven that was easy to use. I used it daily for warmth and atmosphere. The place has authentic local architecture and a lovely neighborhood feel, with tall ceilings, stone and gravel finishes, wooden bathroom details, and organic ethically sourced cotton bedding. The amenities were all functional and thoughtfully made. It’s in the center of the city, about equally distant from tourist areas like Arashiyama and Gion, but the neighborhood itself feels more upscale and residential. I want to keep this place to myself, but everyone should get to experience it. Many thanks, Kayoko-san. I’ll see you again when I’m back in Kyoto.

We spent four nights here and can’t wait to return. Kayoko was a perfect host, bringing us exquisite breakfasts each morning and having a flask of tea ready when we got back each day. The market is a ten-minute walk away, and there are lots of great restaurants and cocktail bars just around the corner on Oshikoji-dori. An absolute treasure.

The owner was so welcoming and sweet, and the breakfasts were amazing. We stayed two days, and had a different breakfast each morning. Tea and snacks were waiting in our room when we got back from a long day, and free laundry was a great extra. The room was comfortable and spacious. We were upstairs, so there was no garden view, even though the Booking.com listing could give that impression. Since it’s a traditional ryokan, the sound insulation isn’t the same. I sleep with earplugs and slept very well, but light sleepers should keep that in mind. There’s a bike rental place and a cute coffee shop at the corner. It’s a small ryokan, so book ahead. It’s farther from the touristy areas, but we wanted the peace and local experience. I’d gladly return. Thanks so much for having us!

The host was incredibly kind and helpful, and even put together a huge list of places to visit and restaurants and cafes. I also loved starting the day with her breakfasts and getting to try local Kyoto specialties. One of the best stays of my life. I can’t recommend it enough for a trip to Kyoto.
