The traditional dinner was a real highlight. The dishes were beautifully prepared and presented, and the chef was kind, polite, and attentive. He made the evening feel special. Ryokan Kanade felt calm and well cared for, with a more special atmosphere than an ordinary hotel. It’s officially a 3-star hotel, but had several nice wellness features. There’s an onsen/jacuzzi area too, though unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to try it. Sleeping on a Japanese futon over tatami was a completely different experience from a regular hotel and really added to the sense of being in Japan. For me, anyone visiting Japan should try this kind of traditional stay at least once. Ryokan Kanade was a memorable part of our trip, with lovely atmosphere, hospitality, and traditional food. 5/5.

This was our first ryokan stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Wearing yukata and sleeping on futons over tatami made the visit feel like an immersive cultural experience. The open-air bath added to the good time, and we especially liked the atmosphere and food. The kaiseki meal was outstanding and felt like a genuine taste of local food culture. The chef and staff were consistently courteous and professional, and the service was exemplary. We highly recommend this place.

The garden was peaceful and beautiful, and the whole stay felt like being at a spa. We were far enough from the crowds in the popular areas, which was a plus for us, though the nearest bus stop is about an 8-minute walk away. We spent our first night in, booking the private bath and a kaiseki dinner. Both were incredibly relaxing, and the staff treated us so well. We also enjoyed wearing the yukatas. Easily the most relaxing, best part of our time in Kyoto, and worth the extra money.

After a decade of traveling around the world and seeing some incredibly beautiful hotels, this one takes the top spot for me, hands down. It’s a beautiful, very quiet and relaxing place. The rooms facing the garden are the best choice if you want to experience a real ryokan room. Simply perfect!!🇯🇵🇯🇵

The whole hotel smelled of cigarettes, and mould covered the shutters in our room and the bathroom. We had to leave and find another hotel. I never usually write reviews, but this place was appalling. The young man helping us was kind and doing his best to accommodate us. Whoever owns it should be ashamed. It felt like a scam. And this wasn’t even a Ryokan, just a three-story building riddled with mould.
