Smile Hotel Kyoto karasumagojo

The service was great, as always, and the location right at Gojo Station is very convenient. The rooms are even smaller than at other Japanese hotels. Breakfast was okay, though I'd skip the coffee.

The hotel is pleasantly located, with some attractions within walking distance, but our double room was so tiny there was barely room to move. The bathroom was small compared with other hotels, the toilet seat wasn't warm, and the bed and pillow felt too stiff. Since they follow a sustainability policy, some services, like room service, aren't available unless you ask. Room size and service could use improvement.

For the price, this was a great find. We paid ¥30,800 on Agoda for two Japanese-style rooms for four adults for two nights, or ¥3,850 per person per night. The rooms were fine, with good air conditioning and shower pressure, though two adults with large suitcases and carry-ons felt cramped, and the luggage layout was awkward. Breakfast was included and had a good variety, so we ate more than expected. Coffee, soft drinks, and hot water were available free throughout the day. If I stayed again, I'd choose a larger room with a proper bed.

The location was great and the staff were helpful, but I hated the room. With three people and our luggage, we had to jump over the bags just to get around. Even a ship cabin would have felt bigger.
