Someno House Kyoto Dog Friendly

The spacious bathroom looking onto the courtyard was a relaxing spot. We stayed with our dog in this renovated Kyoto row house, which is rented as a whole building and has its own parking lot about a two-minute walk away. There’s a kitchen downstairs with dishes, a fridge, microwave, toaster, and drum washing machine, with detergent provided. The layout is one room on the first floor and two upstairs. I did worry that our dog could fall down the stairs because the second-floor bedroom has no fence. Asahi no Ie, run by the same company, seems a safer choice if you’re traveling with a dog.

The only things we found ourselves wishing for were a dish drainer and plastic wrap. Aside from that, our family of four, including our two toy poodles, was very comfortable at Somenoie. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and lodges with dogs, and this one gets a full 100 from me. My family loved it. It was renovated and very clean, with no odor at all. We were there in early March, when it got down to 0°C, and the heated floors kept our feet warm. Each guest had 500ml of water, and there was tea, coffee, nice pajamas, amenities for people and dogs, and a good selection of pots, pans, and chopsticks. The cypress-walled bathroom smelled lovely and the bath was amazing. Futons were already laid out upstairs for everyone, unlike at the lodge where you have to set them out yourself. There was also a small garden and parking. A supermarket and convenience store were a short walk away, and the park behind the lodge made it easy to take the dogs out. We were careful about barking, and we didn’t hear noise from neighboring homes, which has kept us awake at other places. Really, we had no complaints and had a lovely, fulfilling stay. Thank you!

Both the living room and bathroom window look out onto the garden, which made the stay feel really restful. Since you rent the whole house, we felt comfortable staying at this time of year. The kitchen has plenty of cooking gear, so making dinner is an option. We also tried the breakfast, with a set of breads chosen by a bread expert, plus soup, salad, jam, and coffee. It was so good, I’d definitely recommend adding it if you go! 🥐

We’d like to stay here again. The bathroom window looks out over the garden, a lovely view that makes the room feel open. It’s a whole-house rental, so I felt safe staying here at this time. There’s a big sofa and TV, and the kitchen tools are well supplied, making it a nice place to relax.
