This is a generous two stars. The toilet stall smelled strongly of urine, though the other appliances were clean and working. There were only two appetizer-sized plates for the basic cooking setup. It's near a train station, but there's not much else around, and no help available for getting a taxi. Check-in is at another building several blocks away, with no advance notice. There's nobody at the hotel, so if you need something like towels, you have to go to the check-in office. I wouldn't recommend it.

The room was clean and had nice traditional decor, and the reception staff were lovely and very helpful with directions and our requests. It's about a four-minute walk from the bus station and maybe seven minutes from Kyoto Station, so getting around was easy. There were plenty of konbinis nearby too. I loved staying here.

I liked both the location and the hotel, but the check-in point is a ten-minute walk away rather than at the hotel. I think the service is called the quest check-in service. I had to call to learn where it was, and fortunately the woman on the phone understood some English and emailed me the location.

We had a very comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is close to Kyoto Station and a bus stop.
