Sumihotaru Honoka

What made Sumihotaru Honoka special for me was coming in from a cold day outside and warming up fast, then relaxing in the tatami room. The house had a cosy, calm feel, and I loved the window looking out onto a little garden. There’s room for a group of five, with plenty of sleeping options. The place was well equipped and conveniently near Tambaguchi Station. Kyoto Station is walkable too, about 20 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll. The floor heating was a pleasant surprise in winter, and slippers were provided if you prefer them. Laundry was easy as well, with a washer-dryer, detergent, and even a drying rack for clothes that might not do well in the dryer. After a week of travel in Japan, I was glad to wash a couple of things. It was a great balance of Japanese style, comfort, and useful amenities. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a distinctive Japanese home experience. I couldn’t fault the stay and would give it more than five stars if that were possible.

I was able to take it easy during my stay, and the cooking equipment meant I had no trouble picking up things at the store. It was especially cold that day, so I was very thankful for the underfloor heating. Thank you so much 😊
