Takao Kinsuitei

We came to Kinsuitei for a seasonal kaiseki meal, seated beside the river. The dishes were delicate in flavor, beautifully presented, and made the most of fresh local ingredients. The gentle water and birdsong made the meal feel peaceful, with the surrounding mountains and nature far removed from busy Kyoto. The service was warm and attentive, just what you'd hope for at a traditional Japanese ryotei. A lovely setting for a romantic dinner or a quiet taste of Kyoto cuisine.

We didn't stay overnight, but had dinner here. Since it was raining and renting a car near Kyoto station is difficult, we were grateful they picked us up and drove us all the way to Kinsuitei. A friendly lady greeted us with umbrellas. The view was mesmerizing, with a light blue river against fresh green woods. We spent a while watching and photographing it, then enjoyed every dish. The portions, flavors, and presentation were all wonderful, and it was fun chatting with the lady serving us. It was still bright when we arrived, but by the end of the course it was dark, and we could hear the river and frogs singing. It gets cooler here at night than near Kyoto station, even when it's hot and humid there, so bring a jacket just in case. They seem to have blankets ready for guests. The area is quiet and full of nature, and we'd love to stay at the ryokan next time we visit Kyoto.

The atmosphere made every minute worthwhile. The place is beautiful, the service was amazing, and the food was great!
