Tassel Inn Kyoto Kawaramachi Nijo

We spent two nights here during our two-week Japan trip, and it worked well for our short visit to Kyoto. We happened to arrive during the hotel’s anniversary week and won a lucky draw: a bottle of sake and a free night to use in 2026. A lovely welcome bonus. The hotel is in a nice, quiet location. Rooms are small and practical, but no smaller than some we’ve had in Tokyo. The bed was comfortable, and one pillow each was enough for us. I expect the front desk could provide another if asked. Breakfast had continental choices and salad. It did the job, though a few more options would have been nice. Good value, and I can recommend staying here.

Breakfast didn’t have much variety, but everything we tried was really tasty. The hotel itself was quiet and cozy, with a roomy enough room and all the things we needed. Reception staff were friendly and polite, and the metro, buses, old town, and restaurants were nearby. Laundry and ironing were available for a small extra charge.

A lovely, comfortable room and very kind staff made this a great-value stay. It’s quiet around the hotel, yet easy to get around on foot. I’d recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay, and when we needed to add another night, the staff were very helpful. The rooms were clean, the service was great, and the price was reasonable. There are lots of historic and cultural sights within walking distance, plus plenty of great places to eat and shop. One small hassle: the washer and dryer took ages. After trying a couple of loads, we used a nearby laundromat instead. We were there in July, when it was so hot and humid that we had to do laundry more often than usual. The hotel’s location was a big part of what made it such a good choice.
