The Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott

The location worked well, with a quick walk to the subway and bus stops, and breakfast was good. We hadn’t realized when booking that our room had no view. That was fine with us, but quite a few rooms look out onto another building, and their windows don’t open. Happy hour was disappointing unless you’re into alcohol 🍸.

The warm atmosphere and especially the service made this a good place to stay. Reception were friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout, from our arrival through checkout, and made everything feel smooth. Yuan Nakamura and Tanaka at the Chapter Grill deserve a special mention. They were warm and engaging, and kept checking that we had enough food and drinks during Happy Hour. That personal attention made us feel well looked after.

The lobby is beautiful, and the rooms were practical and small, just as expected, with a reasonable price for the location and service. It was a good base for our three nights in Kyoto, with a short walk to the subway and plenty of places nearby. We took taxis and public transport to reach the main tourist spots. The 5-6:30 happy hour for Platinum + Marriott members was a nice perk.

We booked two double-bed rooms and paid for breakfast for one day. The closet was the only drawback, quite small and not enough space for a stay longer than two nights. There was a lot to like: the service and amenities were top notch, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has an indoor smoking room, an Onsen, a gym, and more. My kids got their own amenity kits, with slippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a kiddie sponge. Our room also had a humidifier/dehumidifier/air purifier and a clothes steamer. Breakfast was affordable with a good selection, and two-piece pajamas, top and pants, were included.
