I was so glad I found Tsukimi. My whole five-night stay was wonderful, and all the staff were incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. The hostel is close to tourist spots and bus stations, too. Everything was clean, well kept, and comfortable. The beds were spacious, and each had a personal locker for valuables. Fresh face and bath towels were provided every day, and the toilets and showers were spotless. Hair dryers were available, and laundry was offered at a very affordable price. I'd definitely stay here again when I return to Kyoto. Best hostel in Kyoto!

The staff were the highlight for me. Kohsuke, Yuri, Koya, and the rest of the team were welcoming, approachable, and helpful, and they gave great recommendations. They had a contagious good vibe and always acknowledged me when I was around. I planned on four nights and wound up staying a week. It happened to be a quiet period, so the room was pretty empty, which always helps. The place was clean and organized, there were enough showers on each floor, and the beds were comfortable. Compared with other hostels I've used, the capsules blocked noise pretty well. The common area was spacious and nice, and the rooftop had amazing views by day and night, including Yasaka pagoda. The location in the heart of Gion is hard to beat. Temples, streets, shops, and restaurants were all within walking distance. I also found it convenient that there was a Luup station right at the hotel entrance. I'll definitely stay here again whenever I come to Kyoto.

The rooftop was a real treat, with a table to sit at and a stunning view, and the coffee was free! We had a really nice time at tsukimi hotel last September. The staff were lovely, the place was clean, and the beds were comfortable. It's close to spots worth visiting, as well as bus stops and metro stations. For the price, I think it's the best option you could find, and choosing it was the best decision we made on our trip. Shout-out to Yuuri, who taught me some Japanese.

The location and rooftop terrace were the only good parts of my second stay at Tsukimi Hotel. My first visit in March was great, but this time was terrible. Three nights cost almost 30% more than five nights had in March, and I felt much less welcome. The staff seemed superficially nice but clearly had their favorites and forgot about everyone else within five minutes. Some didn't even say hello or respond when greeted. The cleanliness was awful. There was short and long hair throughout my capsule, stains on the bed, brown slimy marks on the shower floor, and quite a bit of mold on the shower curtain. Even the sandals guests were required to wear weren't white anymore, unlike a few months earlier. The bedroom heating was on full blast, making it far too hot. The slight ventilation in the capsule didn't help, and the door squeaked terribly every time it opened. Other guests showed no consideration. People came and went until after 3 a.m., including a group of guys who arrived shortly before 3 and talked loudly. Some guests started packing in the room shortly before 5 a.m. The capsules do nothing to block sound, so I could barely sleep even with earphones in. Someone also took the sandals we were supposed to wear in the morning. Like, what? I left after one night and found a hotel with a private room and bathroom for less money. At early checkout, the staff asked why I was leaving, but after I explained, they said nothing and didn't apologize. When I came back to collect my luggage, the same person asked if I wanted to check in. Great staff, really. Location isn't everything, and I can't recommend Tsukimi anymore. This second visit will be my last, and I'm shocked at how much a hostel can deteriorate in six months.

It's such a social place, and the staff are amazing. They go out of their way to accommodate everyone's needs. The amenities are excellent, and the beds are really comfortable. I love this place and can't recommend it enough. Kohsuke is an amazing guy, the most accommodating person ever. I hope to come back on my next trip to Japan.
