The upstairs windows gave us lovely views, and we really enjoyed the modern kitchen and thoughtfully designed baths. This charming old-style Japanese “machiya” has been renovated to make it comfortable and convenient without losing its character. It’s well placed for sightseeing, shopping and the museum district, and made a great base for our time in Kyoto.

The neighborhood is very quiet, and Uta Yomi Dori is well set up for a relaxing stay. The house is superb, with a fantastic location just steps from the Philosopher's Path. Many city buses nearby make getting to the center easy. A huge thank you to Charlie, who was an angel when we arrived. Absolutely perfect!

Uta Yomi Dori is such a peaceful oasis, close to lively sights, tourist temples and quieter museums alike. We shopped at nearby Fresco, which had all sorts of interesting groceries, including fresh fish, and cooked some meals at the house. At other times we ate out. Toyo Sushi is a short four-minute walk away and well worth it, simple but tasty. Cafe Dot.S on the corner had great espresso and lemonade. We spent five lovely days here. The house is stylish, mixing traditional and modern touches, and we were comfortable even in November’s cold snap. The heating warmed up quickly, though I did feel a little guilty since the house has no insulation at all. Having both a bathtub and shower felt luxurious. Thanks so much for making the house available to us.

A lovely, peaceful house made for a very pleasant stay, with local shops easy to reach. It’s a little out of the way near the Philosophers' Path, and the train station is about 20-30 minutes away by bus.
