I'm a regular at the inn next door, and had been curious about this place for a while. This was my first stay. I was struck by how such an impressive building could be tucked away so deep in the mountains. The construction, service, and food were all excellent, and the hot spring was roomy, clean, and comfortable. The whole hotel was remarkably clean. The heating kept the building comfortably warm, too. The room felt bigger than it looked in the website photos. It had a humidifier and air purifier, a heater, and a wall-mounted air conditioner. Since the hotel isn't centrally air-conditioned, that separate AC would be especially handy in summer. The food was tasty and generous, and I left completely full. Noise from above wasn't an issue, but the walls between neighboring rooms seemed thin. I could hear conversations, including people getting excited, raising their voices, and laughing. At a quiet, secluded hot spring inn, guests should be considerate of others. The staff helped me change rooms, but looking back, I wish they hadn't placed me, a solo traveler, between rooms with groups. They could have put groups together and solo guests at one end from the start. It was a very satisfying stay, with a luxurious feel and spotless surroundings. Akagi Onsen is a lovely hot spring resort where two very different kinds of accommodation coexist harmoniously.

The hot water was excellent, and we could use the private bath for free as often as we liked. Our meals were delicious, with both Japanese and Western dishes, and there was so much food that I couldn't finish my sukiyaki. I still don't quite understand why they said to let them know if we wanted the meat served first. Next time, I'll order the sukiyaki first. We stayed in Kaede, close to both the lobby and the private bath. The single futon was made up like a bed, giving our family of four room to relax however we wanted. The room seemed recently renovated and was clean, but what stood out more was how thoroughly every corner had been cleaned. It felt very comfortable. I'd love to come again.

We came back to this inn after visiting with friends 20 years ago. The staff were just as kind this time, and the hospitality was excellent. The rooms, hot springs, and other facilities were clean and pleasant, and the food was delicious. The menu was thoughtfully put together, and it looked like a lot of care had gone into the tableware too. I took a photo with the landlady on our first visit and took another this time. It's the kind of inn that makes you want to return.

For my birthday, my family and I chose this place for the spring water and the friendly hostess. It was our first visit. Given the road conditions, I'd recommend coming between spring and autumn. Winter, though, feels like a hidden gem. 🙄 The hostess was warm and loved to chat, which made the stay feel perfect, and the staff were polite and impeccable. When we mentioned my birthday, they kindly served the family a glass of their delicious original red plum wine, which we'd enjoyed as an aperitif. It was wonderful and wonderful. We'll definitely come back! 👍 I've added some photos that I don't think I posted before. [Enjoy the red plum wine]

The building feels peaceful and quiet, and the rooms were clean, as if it had been renovated. In winter, you'll need studless tires if you're driving. There aren't any convenience stores nearby, so pick up anything you need in advance.
