Maebashi Hotel LUKA

A very comfortable hotel.

The staff were very helpful, and I’d stay here again if I get the chance. My non-smoking room was clean and had no smell. The washer and gas dryer were available at a reasonable price. The dryer takes a little getting used to: it’s fixed at 20 minutes, you can’t extend the time, and you have to stop the cooling cycle right when it starts.

The breakfast is filling and varied, and there’s delicious freshly brewed coffee in the lobby too. I keep wondering how they can offer all this at this price. I’ve been staying here whenever I’m in Maebashi, and I’d recommend giving it a try. I’ve come to love the place more each year since I first found it a little over two years ago, so I finally wanted to write about it. It’s become my favorite, and completely changed how I think about mass-produced business hotels. Maybe because a woman runs it, there’s a warm welcome and lots of thoughtful little touches. The lobby is bright and lovely, the rooms are spacious, and as someone traveling for work, I especially appreciate the big tables and luggage racks that can hold plenty. Every room has a high-quality mattress, and I sleep so deeply here, even more than at home. Haha.

It’s a little outside the city center, which means it’s quiet, and there’s free parking. Local Gunma restaurants, ramen places, and other eateries are within a 10-minute walk. I’ve stayed here for events like the Maebashi Festival and really liked the homey feel and pleasant front desk staff. Both the lobby and rooms were very clean. The free coffee and Gunma-chan and Koroton plush toys made the place feel welcoming. I also saw signed posters and merchandise, apparently left by the cast of the popular "Maebashi Witches." I’ll come back, and next time I’ll include breakfast.
