I tried to book a tee time at the clubhouse today, but they wouldn’t take a solo player, even if I paired up with another group. They showed no interest in helping, so I couldn’t play. I’m Swedish, and this has never happened to me at other courses around the world. Maybe it was because I’m a foreigner, or maybe it’s just an old-fashioned view of golf as not being for everyone. I won’t be coming back. If I could give a negative rating, I would.

We had a women’s golf trip here, our first time at this course. It was really spacious, with lovely scenery and greens. There seemed to be lots of animals around, judging by all the deer droppings, but I guess that comes with all the greenery. The automatic cart made getting around easy. The course wasn’t too difficult for us, even though we’re pretty much always beginners, so we could relax and enjoy playing. It rained unexpectedly and the putts were slow, but I had an unusually good day. Lunch was delicious too, especially the ankake crispy noodles. The staff were nice, and I’d love to come back. Apparently the course closes in winter when it snows.

I booked the accommodation plan and checked in after sightseeing in Maizuru. Getting there from Kobe was easy. I played golf on the way back, and after buying some souvenirs I was pretty tired. 😩💦

The accommodation has been renovated and was very clean inside. I stayed overnight and had the chicken hot pot for dinner, which was great value and satisfying in both quality and quantity. The club’s curry was delicious too, and there seemed to be a good range of menu choices. The clubhouse was clean, including the lockers and baths, although the sauna was closed. The course in northern Higashi-Maizuru has substantial elevation changes and is fairly technical. It apparently used to have more than 27 holes and is now down to 18, with quite a few signs of the old layout still around.

I played on a cloudy Saturday in October 2024, during golf season, but it wasn’t crowded and the round moved along smoothly. The course was average in length, fairly wide, and the fairways were in good shape. The rough was on the short side. The bentgrass greens are single greens, and as people say, they were pretty slow. The course seemed to be doing its best overall. The layout has changed from 27 holes to 18, so getting from hole to hole can be a little complicated. The remote-controlled carts made that manageable.
