I've stayed at around 15 ryokans in Japan, and this is the first one so far that had an English menu for both dinner and breakfast. The food was great and there was plenty of it. Service was excellent, too. I mentioned being a fan of Onsen Musume, and they kindly put an illustration stand on my table at both meals. I really appreciated that, and hope I can come back sometime.

The private rooftop bath, with the mountains all around it, was a real highlight. It was cloudy the night we stayed, so sadly we couldn't do any stargazing. We only had one night at Petit Hotel Yubara, which felt too short. Hirohisa made us feel welcome and comfortable, and we really enjoyed the service and our conversations with him. The meals were fabulous, and he took pride in sharing details about the food and the region. We'd certainly like to return in the future.

The owners gave a fascinating talk about hot spring history after the war as part of the hot spring guide plan. I really enjoyed hearing it, and I hope this precious spring water will continue to be offered at Yubara Onsen. The Onsen Musume collaboration information at check-in was fun to hear about, too. The open-air bath with its view was fantastic, with hypotonic alkaline high-temperature water flowing straight from the source. Even the tap gives you the spring water, and it's drinkable. If you have stomach problems, you might want to bring a cup and drink some while soaking. Thank you very much! (≧∇≦)b

The pure spring water comes straight from the source with no added water. It feels wonderful and really warms you up. We came for a day trip to the private open-air bath, and after about seven years away, I was surprised the owner still remembered us. The kind, gentle husband and wife are so soothing. The kids seemed to enjoy it too, so we'll definitely come back. It's not far since we're within the prefecture, and I'd like to stay overnight next time.

Even though it's in Yubara, the place has the feel of a pension♪ The room's unit bath is handy, since you can enjoy the spring water flowing straight from the source whenever you like. There's also a private rooftop open-air bath, where you can look out at the starry sky or dusk if the weather's good. The owner has fun stories to tell, and there's an 1800s music box here, one of only three in the world and the only one in Japan where you can enjoy it.
