Matsue Plaza Hotel Annex

The walls are thin, but I could put up with them for one night. The room had only one green tea bag, so amenities were sparse. There's a midnight curfew, which felt odd for a hotel stay. And instead of a modern card key, we got a Showa-era key on a bulky keychain. You have to leave it at reception when you go out, and there's a charge if you lose it.

Breakfast and dinner are served at the hotel, and there's a second-floor ice maker and microwave by the front desk. A limited number of washers and dryers are available free of charge, too. The main building and annex sit on the same street near Matsue Station, so check which one you need before going to check in. The place is a bit dated but kept up well, and I had no particular discomfort or inconvenience. Switches and outlets are conveniently beside the bed. The price and room size are about what you'd expect, nothing especially cheap or spacious. It may feel plain for sightseeing, but seems suited to a business trip.

It's handy for the station if you just need somewhere to sleep, with the basic necessities provided. The room has a Showa-era feel rather than a modern one. Sound carries through the thin walls from next door and the hallway, so I had to watch the TV volume. Going to the main building for breakfast is inconvenient, and the single small elevator can be hard to catch during morning checkout. Leave yourself plenty of time.

I stayed in both buildings on a business trip, and the annex rooms were bigger, though it varies by room. If all you need is a bed, the annex could work well. It's probably quieter there, as long as other guests aren't noisy. Mornings in the main building can be rough if you want to relax in your room: cleaning staff and groups make a lot of noise, and at some times of year there are groups of young people attending driving school. Getting breakfast means going outside and walking to the main building, since the two aren't connected. For laundry, the coin laundry is also only in the main building. You can go over there or ask about paid laundry service. The front desk told me the annex has a regular washing machine on the second floor that guests can use for free. I think it was available from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, but I'm not certain. There's no dryer. The annex desk isn't staffed during the day, so for luggage storage you'll need to take it to the main building. If you arrive near afternoon check-in time, though, staff at the annex can store your bags. Depending on what you're here for, these arrangements could be convenient or inconvenient. Hope this helps.
