If you’re driving, watch for the parking entrance. Your GPS will lead you to the front of the hotel, but the parking structure is down a small alley behind it. There are several car parks there, though the Toyoko Inn one has pretty clear signs. The hotel’s well-kept rooms and public spaces, professional and helpful staff, and a varied, great breakfast all made a good impression. It’s also in an excellent spot for transport, right near the station.

I had a terrible stay at Toyoko Inn. The top-floor room seemed fine when I arrived, but about an hour later a very noticeable low rumble started, with a buzzing quality to it. I guessed it might be vibration from large equipment on the roof. At the front desk they understood the problem right away, so they must have known about this major issue with the top-floor rooms. They said the hotel was fully booked and couldn’t move me, and gave me earplugs instead. They didn’t help. The rumbling went on all night and was still there when I checked out. My head felt like it was about to explode.

The location is the one real plus. The room was clean, but the mattress was so old and thin that I could feel the metal underneath me. Even budget hotels have better beds. I only got one very soft pillow, and slept poorly. Breakfast was limited and didn’t taste good. I stayed at the Dormy inn next door, and that was much better in every way.

Parking is included with the stay, and breakfast too. The hotel is handy for Matsue station and the bars and restaurants downtown. Rooms are clean and have what you need for a basic business hotel. If the hotel lot is full, the car park next door costs ¥800 from 17.00 to 10.00. Bring your ticket to the desk when you check in.
