The breakfast buffet was the reason we booked at Onyado Nono after friends told us how good it was. We ate there three mornings and enjoyed the last meal just as much as the first. There was lots of choice, mostly Japanese food with a few Western options. At 9 pm they also serve soy sauce ramen in the restaurant, which made a delicious evening snack. Getting around the hotel takes a little adjustment because it's shoe-free. You leave shoes in lockers at the entrance, then walk on tatami floors. Our clean, quaint room had tatami too, and they provided robes and slippers. We were able to leave our bags both before check-in and after checkout, which was helpful. One issue came from our third-party booking. The site said a double room could sleep three, but it couldn't, and the hotel was full. Check the bed setup for your party before booking through one of those sites. Laundry is available in two spots. Washing is free and dryers cost a little. One laundry area is for women only, inside the women's locker room. From the TV in the room, you can see the laundry status and occupancy, and check whether the restaurant or onsen is busy, though it doesn't show a headcount.

The part that really stayed with me was how quickly the hotel helped when I left my AirPods by the bed. I only noticed after we'd moved to another city, and going back would have taken over two hours and thrown off the family trip I'd planned. I contacted them, and they found the AirPods and sent them straight to Nagoya, where we were staying a few days later before our flight to Thailand. There was no extra charge, and they were already waiting when I arrived. That care made the trip much easier and less stressful. We also had a great stay: the place was very clean, the onsen was wonderful, the food delicious, and the staff so kind. I traveled with my family and would highly recommend it. I hope to come back someday.

A few minutes on foot from Matsumoto Station, and around 15 minutes from the castle and other main sights, the location worked really well for us. They offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning, and there was bottled water in the room. We stayed two nights in early November and found the hotel comfortable and well run. Onyado Nono is a Japanese chain with hotels in several cities; most guests seemed to be Japanese, though there were international visitors too. At the entrance you take off your shoes and put them in small lockers. The floors are tatami, so you walk in socks. That's typical for this kind of hotel, but worth knowing beforehand. Our room was small, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with a Western-style bed rather than futons. The bed was fine, but the pillow felt quite hard, the one real downside for us. There is an onsen, though guests with tattoos can't use it. They provide small cover patches, but those won't work for larger tattoos.

The breakfast was tasty and had plenty to choose from, and the late-night ramen was a real treat. Staff were very nice too. The hotel is clean, and I liked the tatami floors and having to take off your shoes before going in. If you're driving, parking is in the building behind the hotel. Let the hotel know so they can give you a ticket for the discounted rate.

The service was fantastic, and the whole place was sparkling clean. The room was spotless, and we enjoyed the complimentary peach desserts. My partner liked the pajamas so much he bought a pair at the front desk to take home. I wish I'd bought some too, and that we'd stayed another night. There were so many complimentary treats. We loved the free drink station, especially the matcha lattes and Calpis soda fountain. After bathing, the evening ice pops and morning yogurt drinks were a lovely touch, and the free late-night soba was delicious. The onsens, sauna, and bathing areas were the cleanest we'd seen. If you have tattoos, ask the front desk for covers. This was the best hotel we stayed at in Japan, and probably the best hotel experience I've had.
