The owner even had a shoe dryer, which saved me after a long, rainy hike in Kamikochi. It’s a one-man guesthouse, but the service was surprisingly good, and everything in the room and shared areas was clean. There were lots of amenities in the common area too. I’d definitely stay again when I return to see Kamikochi on a sunny day, or even if I’m near Matsumoto.

The location is excellent, especially for a visit to Kamikochi. Hostel Shima Shima felt clean, private, and safe, and the owner was so friendly and welcoming. I’d definitely stay again next time.

We had a good time and felt really welcome. The host was very kind and friendly, and the place has a nice vibe with its charming wooden look. It was just what we wanted before heading into the mountains. Thanks for having us.

We used this place as a base for hiking around Kamikochi, since the bus leaves practically right outside the guesthouse. The owner was friendly and helpful, and the attached restaurant was very good. The common area and sauna were also nice places to spend a relaxing afternoon. We loved staying here.

The hosts were incredibly nice, and the place had a great vibe. It’s close to the train station and in a perfect spot for exploring Kamikochi. Try the local craft beers! Thanks for hosting us ❤️
