The hotel held our luggage before check-in, which I appreciated, and you can’t beat how close it is to the station. After walking and hiking around Kamikochi and on the Tateyama Alpine Route to Shinano Omachi and the Ogizawa side, I was glad I didn’t have to walk far, especially with leg pain. I stayed from 19 Oct 25 to 21 Oct 25 as a base for those trips. The hotel has seen better days, but I knew that and wasn’t going to complain. I got what I paid for. The hot water was a welcome way to warm up in Matsumoto’s cold, with temperatures around 7*-12* during my stay. The air con is centralized, so you can’t set the temperature. After 9 or 10 pm it blows hot air; turn it off if you don’t like that. If the room feels too hot, you can open the window and let the cold air in.

The location is very convenient, directly opposite the station. The bed seemed worn, with uneven springs, and there was mold in the toilet. The central air conditioning means you can’t control the mode or temperature. The room also wasn’t well soundproofed, since I could hear music from the pedestrian light. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We paid extra for a double bed, but the room we got smelled really bad and wasn’t clean. The hotel moved us to another room with a single bed. That one was okay, though it wasn’t what we’d paid for. The hotel itself also felt very old.

Being right across from the station made the location great, and they let us check in early on a very rainy day, which I really appreciated. The room was good, and breakfast came with the stay as a choice of Japanese or Western set meals. The WiFi, though, was terrible.

The location worked perfectly for us: the train and bus stations are very close, handy for a Kamikochi trip, and the walking streets and Matsumoto Castle are within walking distance. The hotel was well maintained and good value for what we paid. I’d highly recommend it.
