The food, onsen, and room all exceeded what we expected. Service was the best we experienced in Japan, where we had otherwise only good to great service. After our short walk from the bus stop, someone was waiting outside to greet us. At dinner, the lady looking after us was very patient with my limited Japanese.

We were sorry to leave. Everyone on staff made us feel welcome, and Mayumi deserves a special mention for introducing us and being so lovely to talk with. The room was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was very good, and they kindly made sure it was vegetarian for us. We also enjoyed a drink or two of the local options in the bar in the evenings, and the clean, lovely onsen. This place set a high bar for the rest of our trip.

The staff were really nice and ready to help, and the onsen was great. It's a beautiful ryokan-style hotel, and the food and the whole stay were awesome. Matsumoto is such a pretty place to visit, and this hotel made the experience complete.

The only real drawback is getting there: it's rather remote, and you'll mostly need a taxi. Once there, it's a stylish, picturesque ryokan-type hotel, with beds and well-equipped rooms that include toilets. There's also a large, very nice onsen with hot spring water.

The food was excellent, and the service at this small, out-of-the-way inn was lovely. The rooms and onsen felt a bit dated, but it was reasonable value for money. Matsumoto itself is well worth a visit.
