I was pleasantly surprised by the local craft beer. I hadn’t known much about Ehime beer, but it was delicious. This is a historic, well-known hot spring inn, and the room had a private hot spring I could use whenever I wanted.

The first-floor suite is roomy and thoughtfully laid out, with space for another person or couple. It has two connected or separable rooms, one tatami room that can be set up with futons, and one carpeted and hardwood room with Western-style beds. The washroom, snack area, and outdoor bath are in the shared area, while the toilet is in its own room. Sliding doors let you reach both rooms, and the screens to the bath and patio can be lowered for privacy. Oborozukiyo Hotel and Onsen is a beautiful upscale hotel in the Dogo area of Matsuyama, and one of the area's original hotels. It’s been renovated into a graceful mix of mostly Japanese architecture and decor with some Western touches. The bath is large and available 24 hours, and you can adjust its temperature. The patio overlooks the garden and is a pleasant spot to relax and cool off afterward. Terrycloth robes are provided. There’s also a massage chair if you don’t want to visit the masseuse. The snack area has complimentary drinks in the fridge, and two packages of good-quality coffee are provided. You can ask for more.

A terrific upscale onsen hotel, with a private bath in the room. The food and service were excellent.

We had a really enjoyable family stay, especially thanks to the pleasant conversation with Ms. K, the waitress who served our late-night snack. My son particularly enjoyed it. Thank you! The inn is about a five-minute walk from the main Dogo Onsen building, and I was very satisfied overall. In terms of service and location, it’s probably among the best in Dogo Onsen. Every guest room has a semi-open-air bath. Children under junior high school age aren’t allowed, so the guests seem to skew older. The kaiseki dinner was carefully prepared and lovely to look at as well as eat. Breakfast with the optional sashimi was so luxurious it could pass for dinner. My one food disappointment was missing the Uwajima-style sea bream rice. I hadn’t checked in advance based on the information I had, so I suppose that couldn’t be helped.

The inn felt luxurious and quiet, with spacious rooms and a rock bath where I could unwind. Dogo Onsen water filled the open-air bath, and it felt great. There was also a footbath-like area between the walkway and the open-air bath. I imagine that walkway would have had a different feel at night. The inn was decorated for Christmas. The Dogo Onsen Main Building, shopping district, and Glass Museum were all nearby and were great to visit.
