Dogo Onsen Hotel Kowakuen

After the long drive from Shimanto, we spent two nights at Kowakuen hotel and had a really nice stay. Jason made check-in easy and was especially helpful. We’d also dropped a poster into a tiny gap in the room by accident, and he patiently helped us get it back safely. We appreciated his kindness and would gladly return.

We drove from Kochi to Hiroshima and stayed here for one night. The parking was easy to manage: a concierge greeted us, checked our name against the hotel guest list, assigned a space, and guided us there, so there was no confusion even without speaking Japanese. The onsen was pleasant, with indoor and outdoor pools and plenty of room for washing, drying hair, and skincare. I think it closes at 1am and reopens at 6am. It wasn’t crowded, even during the Chinese long weekend, and was handy for guests without time to visit Dogo Onsen. Our room came with yukata in several sizes, two pairs of sandals, and baskets. We hadn’t planned to, but walking around town in yukata felt authentic and right.

The staff were great, and I liked the spacious room, lobby, and location. Having an onsen right at the hotel was perfect. A must-stay.

The hotel and spa were spotless and well maintained, and the Japanese-style bathroom and well-equipped room worked well for me. The elevator from the first floor down to the shopping street is a big location bonus. I also enjoyed the breakfast buffet, especially having plenty of Western choices and Matsuyama tangerine juice Pom readily available. The staff were welcoming, and Shuhei at the front desk was particularly helpful in arranging my airport transportation. I’d definitely stay again.
