Hotel Matsuyama Hills

The location is really central, a few minutes from the train station, with a tram stop right outside and a convenience store 500m away. For the 30€ a night I paid through Expedia, it was a bargain and I’d happily come back. The building looks old outside, but it’s well kept inside. I booked a non-smoking single room. It was small without feeling cramped, very clean, and had all I needed. The bed was comfortable and large for one person. The air conditioning was quiet and worked well, and there was free WiFi and a tiny TV. Breakfast was included too. The staff were lovely and helpful. You can borrow a bicycle for free, and there’s a huge Manga library on the fourth floor, though it’s in Japanese only. Laundry with a washer and dryer costs 500y. It’s no five-star Hilton, but I really don’t understand the bad or mediocre reviews. I had a lovely two-night stay.

It’s an old hotel, but reasonably priced and breakfast is included. You can rent a bicycle, which saves a lot since public transport in Matsuyama is a bit expensive.

The man at the front desk was really unpleasant. Really, really unpleasant.
