Hotel MyStays Matsuyama

The service was appreciated, but the condition of the facilities didn’t feel in line with a four-star hotel. The worn carpeting could use replacing, and I’d like management to take another look at bathroom cleaning, especially the toilets. Noise also affected my stay. The plumbing made persistent sounds, and the walls didn’t block enough noise from neighboring rooms. I stayed in Room 813 on January 28, 2026, and hope these issues can be addressed so the experience better matches the rating.

The front desk staff were excellent, and the hotel is in a great spot. The room itself was the usual Japanese setup, just a bed, small desk, and bathroom. Nothing was wrong with it, but nothing made it memorable either. Friends were staying at several other nearby hotels, and those seemed cheaper, so the price was hard to justify beyond three stars. Maybe I booked at the wrong time and better deals were available elsewhere. It was fine, but there are likely better and less expensive choices.

The room was a good size, and breakfast with sea bream was an interesting touch. But for a 3.5-star place, I expected more. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room on the 10th floor, which was a major downside. The toilet paper was also very cheap and thin.

The castle view was fantastic, and the staff were pleasant and friendly. The laundry facilities were useful too. But the room had a bad smell even though it was non-smoking, and opening the window took real effort just to get some air in. The cleaning wasn’t up to scratch. There was mould on the window and in parts of the bathroom grout, and the furniture and bed linen looked old and tired. The mattress was so hard that we were sore after two nights. Street noise carried on well into the night. We’re not especially fussy, but basic cleanliness matters, and we wouldn’t stay again.
