KEIKO S.
The room smelled strongly of smoke when I checked in. I’d read online that every room was non-smoking, but reception told me they were all smoking rooms. For the price, that wasn’t good value.

The room was roomy and comfortable, and the hotel felt like a good deal. I was there for sightseeing in Mihama, a little way from Tsuruga, and it was an easy five-minute walk from the station. The hotel shares its premises with a pub that serves breakfast. There was Wi-Fi, though nobody mentioned it at check-in, and breakfast ended at 7:30 AM, which were small drawbacks. It seemed to have more long-term work guests than tourists.
If noise bothers you, this probably isn’t the place for you. It’s an old Showa-era business hotel, with facilities that feel very much of that time. It wasn’t dirty, but I wouldn’t call it clean either. The smoking-room smell is so strong a non-smoker could faint if they wandered in by mistake. That sounds a bit harsh, I suppose, but the price is about right.
I stayed here a long time, and it was awful. Cleaning only happens every three days. Each morning you have to leave your rubbish and towels outside the room, then collect your own towels. It felt more like living in a dorm than staying at a business hotel, and I don’t think they should call themselves one. It wasn’t worth the money, and I won’t come back.
For what it costs, it’s fair enough. If you’re hungry, you can get both meals here.
