I loved the quiet feel of Niu village. There aren't any convenience stores that I saw, but reception has free hot drinks and water, and the WiFi is free too. I enjoyed an early walk by the quay, watching kites and seagulls hunt around the little fishing boats. Buses run from JR Tsuruga station, though not very often. There are lovely white sand beaches nearby, so I'd like to return in summer. Katsumiya sits at the end of the Tsuruga peninsula. It's recently been renovated and is very clean. The auberge serves delicious Japanese food with fresh seafood, organic vegetables, and fine sake from local breweries.
