Resort Forest Hills Garden

The hotel’s sukiyaki was excellent. The staff were so kind and helpful that, for the first time in a long while, I felt right at home.

We stayed in a chalet that smelled extremely musty, and I came away with lots of bites. There were blood marks on the sheets, so I suspect bed bugs. Even ten days later, the bites were still very itchy. The stay was costly and hugely disappointing compared with the high standards I’d experienced elsewhere in Japan. The property sits in pretty woodland behind its newer sister hotel. It’s largely derelict and felt creepy, isolated and unsafe. The site is made up of a main reception building and chalet-style units, with old-fashioned fixtures. Once it got dark there were no staff or other guests around, and I slept very little. There’s no food or facilities here. All services come from Hiroshima Airport Hotel, a considerable distance away along a difficult route that’s completely dark at night. The one star is for the lovely transport driver who picked us up at dawn. Most reviews of this property seem very old.

The house was really comfortable, and the food was so good. You can choose breakfast and dinner to have in your house. I’d love to stay for three days next time. It was awesome, highly recommend!
