Pension Tops

The building is old but clean, and they kindly made it comfortable for us to stay with our pet. Everything we ate was delicious. The hot springs were the highlight: we almost had them to ourselves and could use them around the clock. I only wish there’d been a kettle in the room. It’s the sort of inn I’d like to visit again soon.

I was very satisfied with the delicious food when I stayed here in my twenties. The building is old and feels more like a guesthouse, so it may not suit someone wanting a hotel-like atmosphere. But the close connection with the staff that you get at a guesthouse made it a good experience.

We came in January because they let us stay in the rooms with pets, and found ourselves in a snowy ski resort parking lot! The resort is right in front, so I imagine it could be nice in summer too. The staff were all welcoming and very friendly. The heating broke down, but the food and value for money were good.

(October 2024) I stayed here for the first time the night before climbing Mt. Tanigawa, without meals since I had an early start. The hot spring water felt excellent to me, mild and warming for a long time. It’s very quiet, and with no TV in the room, I think I’ll fall asleep quickly. Remember to bring your own toothbrush and towel.
