Tenjin Lodge

A cozy lodge with a really relaxed feel. I especially liked the bar and living room. The sauna gets nice and hot, the Western beds are comfortable, and the shower had warm water. They also offer guiding around Mt T. We hiked up to the peak, and the guides knew the area well and took safety seriously.

We booked snowboard lessons with Tenjin Lodge but didn’t stay there. We only found out when we called at 5 pm the day before that all the instructors were unavailable due to illness, so we had to postpone the lessons by a day. The instructor we eventually got was a lodge staff member without professional certification. They need to communicate better. We should have been told as soon as the instructors became unavailable, and we should have been informed ahead of time that the replacement instructor wasn’t professionally certified.

We were three friends sharing one room, swapping stories and laughing late into the night. Even in summer, we didn’t need a fan or AC. With the windows open, the steady sound of the river helped us fall asleep earlier than usual. I’m sorry we left the room messy. Kieren gave us lots of helpful suggestions for places to visit. I can’t remember the name of the woman who greeted us, but she was warm, attentive, and clearly cared about making our stay memorable. There was more than enough food at breakfast. I missed having croissants and orange juice, though, and it’d be nice to have a few juice options in the future. I really appreciate the care we got.

The location is great, but the owner and staff were extremely rude to me, and at times outright offensive. They seemed to be trying to show other people that I was a safety concern. That’s not normal hospitality. The breakfast was flavorless, and it was the same every day. The staff gave off a strange vibe 🤣
