Grand Mercure Minamiboso Resort & Spa

We found the rooms modern, comfortable, and nicely designed, and there were lots of paths around the park and peninsula to explore. The coast views are lovely, and the setting is quiet. The onsen, including the Rosenberg and sauna, was very good, and breakfast had a large buffet. Drinks and snacks were freely available. Many staff speak English, which makes sense with quite a few international guests. Seems ideal for families with children.

The onsen was clean, lovely, and very well looked after, and breakfast had plenty of choices for me as a vegetarian. It’s such a peaceful, beautiful place. The staff are kind and respectful, and seem to fit naturally with the surroundings. I’ll definitely come back someday. 🙏

The onsen is gorgeous, which made returning to my room feel like a real downgrade. The contrast is hard to miss. The room felt more like staying at my grandparents’ house than at a “premium resort,” especially after seeing the beautiful front desk lobby that had raised my expectations so much. I had to set up the futons myself, including putting covers on the mattress and blankets. The bathroom is tiny and looks old, and the door knob doesn’t turn properly. At least I could use the onsen instead of the bathroom in my room, but it’s strange to have such a gap between them. The curtain doesn’t block the light, so the room was bright at 6am and I couldn’t sleep in. That’s frustrating and unacceptable. I’m here for one more night, and when I asked the front desk for an eye mask, they told me to go to a convenience store. 🤦‍♀️

Ono-san really made our stay special. As an Accor Platinum member who’s had top-notch service around the world, I wanted to give them a shoutout for being such a gem and showing what great customer service looks like. Families are well catered for here: there’s a playground, a kids’ activity room, and tiny yukatas for children to wear to the onsen. The restaurant and amenities are kid-friendly. Hospitality varied between the breakfast area and lounge, though the young lady at the lounge was lovely. We’ll definitely return, and I’d recommend it for families.
