Sunstay Kaseda

I’m a permanent resident of Japan and have been here for over 20 years. The hotel demanded a copy of my Foreign Residency Card. I refused, but he copied it without my permission. I told him this violated the Inns and Hotels Act, Article 6, pursuant to an order of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. He threatened to call the police. I showed him the law and he still refused to return the copy, so I demanded my private documents back. He said he'd call the police, and I told him to go ahead because I know my rights. He returned them, which could be alleged obstruction of the ordinance that violates privacy laws and civilian rights. He did call the police. The next day he apologized after the police verified the laws. As I understand it, only people who are not residents of Japan have to provide a passport number. When signing in, residents, including short-term and long-term visa holders, don't need to provide residency documents. The innkeeper threatened me with the police and was genuinely awful. Apart from that, the beds were great, but there was just one tiny pillow. The renovated room was huge, spacious, and well lit, but the sink water backed up and one area smelled moldy. There was no bedside stand, and the only plugs were behind the TV, so charging phones and other devices was difficult. Breakfast tasted lovely but had only a few choices. 13,000¥? Not. Worth. It.

I had a comfortable stay at this Japanese-style business hotel.

The stay was cheap, which helped a lot, and I really appreciated how kind the receptionist was. The one-time drink server was a nice extra too!

Over the New Year's holiday, an older Japanese woman was at the front desk and welcomed us warmly and politely.
