Update: Booking.com negotiated a 50% refund. This was disappointing, especially for anyone with small children. We booked through Booking.com and paid a non-refundable amount. After that, the owner messaged to say eating and drinking in the room were strictly prohibited, and there was an extra charge to use the air conditioner or, in winter, the heater. The listing on Booking.com showed a tea and coffee maker in each room, but that wasn't true. The owner said this was how things worked in Japan and that we should have contacted him ahead of time. We hadn't encountered anything like this in 10 years of staying in Japan. We have a baby who needs to be fed at odd hours, so we had no choice but to cancel. Another Google Maps review said someone was charged 14,000 yen for dropping water on the floor, and we couldn't take that chance. The owner refused our cancellation request. Booking.com initially said it was between us and the hotel after a booking was made, but they were trying to get at least half the money refunded.

The kitchen is huge, so I could cook there, and the shared area is spacious and a nice place to relax. I stayed a few days, and the price was very attractive for a family. I'll come back. Thanks!

This is a very late review. I wasn't someone who used to write these, but I enjoyed my stay. It felt like quintessential rural Japan, tucked away from things. The owner is willing to pick you up, though winter sounds like it could be a pretty rough time to stay there.

Had a bitter experience here. We spilled a little water on the tatami, and the owner fined us 14,000 yen. He made racist comments because we were foreigners. Very unprofessional, strongly not recommended.
