Guest House Minato

Miyako has a beautiful beach, really good restaurants, and very nice people. The hostel owner also knows the Coastal Trail well and gave me useful advice on where and how to walk, plus where to rent a bear bell. He speaks very good English and was responsive when I booked by email and during my stay. The place is comfortable and very clean, with a common area, kitchen, living room, bathrooms, and toilet. The female dorm isn’t too small, and it has AC for heating the room. Great for backpackers.

Jun-san was the highlight of my stay. I got into trouble with the JR local train in Morioka, and he waited for me in the evening and even advised me which bus to take while I was there. He also makes very good coffee. The guesthouse is close to Miyako Station and the bus stops, and since it’s new, the facilities are clean and the beds are comfortable. There’s a shared kitchen and common area, so it’s a good deal for budget travelers. I’ll come back when I visit Jodogahama beach again. Thanks, Jun-san!

The room was comfortable and the heater worked well enough. The shared spaces, toilet, and shower room were all clean, and the staff were nice and talkative. You can book directly through their website. I found out about the guesthouse through a publication and saw that it’s part of Iwate Prefecture Reconstruction.

Jun and Kano were about as friendly as staff could be, and the place was comfortable and clean. You could ask about the old yukata shop for its beautiful reworked Japanese textiles, or just visit the shop for its quaint, characterful charm.
