Hotel de M

It’s a clean, automated place that feels like a business hotel, with easy check-in and checkout. There’s a mini-fridge, which suits a solo traveler well. Since there’s no lobby, groups don’t really have a place to hang out. The downtown area at night is under a 10-minute walk, so it works if you don’t mind the activity. The first-floor cafe is open until 4 pm and has plenty of tasty plate meals. They serve beer too.

I liked the small handwritten note and cute drawing waiting on the table, and the room and bathroom were both spotless. The room was comfortable and inexpensive, so I’d happily stay again. I was there for two nights. Parking is across the road, so it’s easiest to leave the car in the cafe lot and bring your bags over. The entrance is up a steep staircase, but there are handrails. Nishizato Street is nearby, which makes dinner outings easy. I was alone and felt a little uneasy walking back at night, so I took a detour along a well-lit street.

What stayed with me most was how kind the staff were. My first Miyakojima trip had strong winds, rain, and cold weather, and I was feeling down, but one staff member greeted me so cheerfully that it lifted my mood. I first spotted Hotel de M’s cute exterior while watching YouTube videos as I looked for a place to stay, and that’s what made me choose it. The room itself had a calming feel. Our key unexpectedly wouldn’t open the door, but a staff member came over quickly to help. We had breakfast at the first-floor cafe. The croissants, pizza toast, and purple sweet potato toast set were all delicious, and the presentation was cute too.

I liked being able to check in and out without meeting anyone. The room was clean, the air conditioning worked well, and the balcony was spacious. A handwritten welcome note made me happy, and the bathtub was clean enough to fill up. Breakfast at the cafe downstairs is available for much less. Ashtrays are put out when the cafe is open if you smoke. The main downside was the noise. I could clearly hear people knocking or calling outside my room, and it seemed like voices carried both ways, so the area might get noisy. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s fine, but I probably wouldn’t stay alone again. The convenience store is a bit far. This was my first stay in Miyakojima, and I’d still use this hotel again.
