Hotel Torifito Miyakojima Resort

The lobby’s free refreshments were always gone, and the view from our window wasn’t appealing. There’s nothing around here, no restaurants or things to do. You might manage to get an expensive taxi out, but then getting one back is a problem. The hotel staff refused to help, even when I was only 10 km away, and wouldn’t call a taxi for me. I’ve never dealt with hotel staff this unhelpful. You need a car to stay here, and if you have one, drive somewhere else because this hotel sucks.

The staff are friendly, and after swimming in the sea you can shower in the pool area. They’ll give you a towel for free if you ask at reception. Breakfast is a buffet with Ryukyu foods. I stayed three nights with my kids, who are 14 and 11 years old. Getting here from the airport by car takes five minutes, so I recommend the hotel for its easy access. The coin laundry information doesn’t seem up to date, though. You’re better off driving about 10 minutes to the ones in the city district.

The resort’s Wi-Fi connection is pretty terrible, so using mobile data may be a better option. The place itself is clean and spacious, very close to the airport, and there’s also a free shuttle service to the airport.

The bathroom vents make a strange siren-like noise. If you’re sensitive to sound and hear it, try switching the vent off, as that’s probably where it’s coming from. When I stayed, October 10-12, 2021, the hotel still felt quite new and clean. We got caught in a typhoon, so couldn’t really use the outdoor pool. There’s a small shop selling souvenirs, snacks, and food, plus car rental.
