We arrived in December just as snow was starting to fall, and staying in this 100-year-old farmhouse was such a unique experience. It was a huge house, with three bathrooms, a full kitchen stocked with pots and pans for cooking a whole meal, and an incredible living room looking out over a breathtaking view. It had everything we wanted, including delicious matcha tea and a great sound system. The staff were so friendly. They drove us to the house and showed us how everything worked. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it for a family or a couple.

The setting and scenery are outstanding, and the lodge is big and beautiful. I’d give it four stars if the price were lower. Since it’s in nature, expect insects like spiders and centipedes inside. If you don’t mind the bugs or the cost, and you have a car, it’s a perfect spot. You’ll need a car because there’s no public transport or food shop nearby. The reception was underwhelming too. I expected them to sell at least biscuits or chocolates, but there was nothing. Great location for hiking Mt Miune or Tsurugi.

We stayed at both Seiko and Fusho, and loved them. They’re wonderful places, though driving the narrow mountain roads can be quite thrilling. I only wish the Shiki-buton were a bit thicker and fluffier.

Iya Valley is a great location, and the views are lovely. Definitely worth staying here.
