Mombetsu Central Hotel

The staff were helpful, and the location made it convenient to reach a lot of attractions. Still, this is a very tired old hotel, probably from the bubble era. The lift and rooms are old, and my air conditioning didn't work at all, so I had to open the window just to get enough air. The quiet city, apart from the fishing and seafood business, seems to fit that same era. Driving around, I honestly couldn't tell how much better the other hotels might be. At night the area gets very dark and quiet, though you can look around for somewhere to eat. As a foreigner, especially with limited Japanese, you may not always feel welcomed.

The six scallop dishes at dinner were prepared in different ways and tasted nice. Using the Goto campaign made the total price, dinner included, very cheap. At the regular price, we probably wouldn't stay here. The campaign rate was fantastic. The hotel is aging, and the large bath was very run down. Our room smelled of smoke, but the air cleaner cleared it fairly quickly.

The Yukata they provided was really nice, and I loved relaxing in the Onsen. The staff were welcoming and helped me plan my trip around Mombetsu. They also kindly accommodated my food restrictions at both breakfast and dinner. For this price, the lovely, smiley staff, great food, and relaxing Onsen make me want to return.

Monbetsu is a small, sleepy town, and I wasted time looking for somewhere to stay until someone pointed me to Central hotel. It's a business hotel with clean, roomy rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful, and although they spoke limited English, communication wasn't a problem. We had a pleasant stay and would happily recommend it. If you need a place in Monbetsu, this is a good one to check out.
