If you want a Japanese-style stay and to enjoy the evening in Gion, Ryokan Okuda(Okuda Ryokan) is a nice choice. It's a simple, classic hotel with warm, friendly service. Gion(Gion) shopping street is very close, so it's easy to find food and shops. Bus and train stations are nearby too, and they provide guests with a one-day ticket.

The owner is really nice, and there's a Japanese-style bathhouse on the first floor. The rooms are huge. It's an old-fashioned place with a lot of character, and although it's a bit pricey and dated, I think it's worth experiencing.
