Hotel Odashima

A clean bed and bathroom, with great amenities. It’s been refurbished recently, so things feel new and the decor is nice. A good, affordable place for a short stay in Morioka.

Good price and service at this local business hotel. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance.

The bed itself was fine, but the noise was unbearable. I arrived after midnight, tired enough that my judgment wasn’t great, and regret not speaking to the front desk as soon as I got in. I’ve never had noise this bad at another cheap hotel, and it kept me from sleeping properly even with the wireless headphones I brought. The room’s walls and ceiling seemed to bounce the low rumble around and make it worse. I’d picked this as the cheapest place near downtown Morioka. It looks old, though I didn’t notice obvious dirt at a glance. There were a few good features, including a TV with video streaming services and shower controls by the thermostat. My room was on the second floor, where noise from the boiler room spread through the area. Maybe the old building has poor soundproofing, but this room was especially bad. Staff suggested the third floor, and I tried it, finding it better than the second. Still, it was already 4:30 AM, I was tired, and I wasn’t staying multiple nights, so I chose not to move. I think Kaikatsu Club might be a better option. (See video)

The room was small but clean, and having a convenience store on the first floor was nice. Parking in the paid lot next door costs less. It was the start of the year and the hotel had no guests, so I got a low rate. They also lightly cleared the snow in the morning, which was a nice extra.
