The location worked well, with an easy bus ride from the station or a short walk, and the staff were nice. The lobby is large, the room was spacious, and the hotel generally seemed modern and clean. I also liked that there were different pillows to choose from. But I’ve tried staying here twice and both visits left me with a bad night’s sleep. The room wasn’t cleaned to my standards, with big cobwebs around the lights and ceiling corner. My window wouldn’t close properly, so I could hear the crossing beeping constantly along with traffic. The air conditioning only has off, low, medium, and high, and even switched off the room felt too warm and dry. There’s a low ceiling in the bathroom and the water pressure is poor. The hotel felt more upscale than I’d normally book, though I got a great rate. I can’t quite put my finger on why I dislike staying here so much, but I won’t return.

The staff were helpful, calling a taxi for us, and housekeeping came each day. Although check-in was supposed to be at 3 or 4, they let us in at noon, which was great service. We’d booked a double bed for two through agoda. When we arrived, staff offered to upgrade us to a twin double room for ¥10,000 per person for three nights. We were exhausted, so we agreed.

The beds were decent, and the room was clean with a nice layout. There are vending machines on every floor, including some alcohol, which was handy. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff were really friendly. The lobby is quite nice too. It’s only about a 15-minute walk from Morioka station. I’d definitely stay here again.

Wifi is available, and if the hotel lot is full you may need to use a different parking area. Show your parking card before leaving and they’ll discount the parking fee. The room is small, and the AC only has high, low, and off settings, so you might need to call the front desk to have the temperature changed. If you’re after a cheap hotel, this is the cheapest one.

There’s nothing new about New Carina Hotel. It feels dated and dusty. I feel for the staff, who seem to be doing what they can with the place as it is.
