We wanted quiet time with nature and good conversation, rather than the convenience and luxury of a hotel, and Bise Village was perfect for that. At night it gets pitch black, an obvious part of country life that’s easy to forget in the city. I stayed with a friend this time, though I think families would enjoy it too. The place is easy to reach. There’s parking across the street if you rent a car, and the express bus from Naha Airport stops nearby. Bise Beach, with some of the clearest water in Okinawa Prefecture, is a five-minute walk away. The sunset at Bisezaki, which you can’t experience on a day trip, was beautiful, and walking under the Fukugi trees in the calm morning air was wonderful. I love saunas, so I visited Subtropical Sauna, around 15-20 minutes away. Churaumi Aquarium is also within walking distance. Mount Daisekirin and the northernmost point of Cape Hedo are just over an hour away, making this a good base for taking your time with the northern region’s nature. I’d happily stay here again on my next visit to northern Okinawa. Thank you 😊

The room itself was lovely, with a large bathroom, a spacious bedroom, lots of amenities, a drum washer-dryer, an open-air bath, L'Occitane toiletries, and a beautiful ocean just a three-minute walk away. That’s why the stay was such a shame. As soon as I walked in, there was a sewage smell throughout the room, toilet, and bathroom. The S-shaped pipes may have dried out and let the odor in. I turned on the exhaust fan and adjusted the plumbing myself. Even without staff nearby, I realized it’s only worthwhile to make the most basic preparations. I’d arranged an extra bed for my child, but they didn’t set it up. When I asked if I needed one, they gave me a sheet and said I could do it myself, which was fine since it was free. But when I said I needed two, the foreign staff member told me I’d have to prepare them myself. We couldn’t communicate clearly, so I gave up. The toilet smell didn’t go away even with the fan running. Looking closer, I saw black mold between the bathroom wallpaper, which was starting to peel. Maybe that’s unavoidable in Okinawa’s humidity, and I understand the climate, but the maintenance felt a bit sloppy.

There’s plenty of room for families or groups, with cooking equipment and dishes provided. I also liked the roomy bath. It’s convenient for Churaumi Aquarium and Fukugi Tree Avenue, and you can get to the Yanbaru area easily as it rapidly becomes a resort destination.

We spent a few winter days here. For the price, I have no complaints, but these are things I’d have liked to know in advance or that seem easy to improve. It was still a fulfilling stay with a sense of getting away, and I highly recommend the place. The spot is handy for the Fugugi Tree-lined Street, Churaumi Aquarium, Nakijin Castle Ruins, and the sea, all just a few minutes away on foot. Parking is spacious, gravel covered, and right in front. The road outside is narrow but two-way, leading to the parking for the Fugugi Tree-lined Street. Some inconsiderate tourists speed along it, so take care. At night the area has almost no streetlights and gets pitch black. There was a lantern by the entrance, but its batteries were dead, so bring a flashlight. Few nearby restaurants are open at night. Buy dinner while it’s still light and eat in the room. The closest convenience store is about five minutes away by car, and the supermarket, which has a 100-yen shop, is around 15 minutes away. There are floor-level changes in several places, including a step down into the kitchen and a step in the bedroom. The bathroom can be slippery, the window table wobbles, and some spots may be difficult for children or people with weak legs. The glass entrance door leaves the inside visible to passersby from evening into night. A roller blind would help; I brought my own privacy screen and was glad I did. The bed and pillows are quite soft, so keep that in mind if you have back pain. There’s no bedside light switch, and the switch is far away, which was inconvenient at bedtime. The air conditioner filter was dusty and its fins heavily molded. I cleaned it a little, but regular checks would help. The air purifier is a good model, but its filter smelled terrible and spread the odor through the room when running. The bathroom and toilet fans seem to draw air in from outside, as if turning backward, so perhaps the wiring needs checking. The towels had a faint smell, so I washed them before use. There were enough towels and amenities for the number of guests and nights. The fully automatic washer-dryer is large, but they provide only one detergent pack per night regardless of guest count, so bring more if you need it. There’s a portable induction cooktop, hot plate, and counter exhaust fan, so the counter is a good place for hot pot or griddle cooking. The bathroom is spacious and luxurious, though it takes over 30 minutes to fill. Shampoo and other toiletries come in bottles. I’d read elsewhere that the toilet had weak water flow, but it worked fine for me, and there was plenty of spare toilet paper. There was, however, a lingering human-waste smell on the floor, so an air freshener might help. Things I wished were provided: chopsticks, kitchen scissors, a large bowl, toaster oven, vacuum cleaner, and bath chair. I brought plastic wrap, a dishcloth, paper towels, seasonings and oil, plus coffee and tea. Email and phone replies were a little slow, but polite, so it’s best to ask questions ahead of time. The place shows some age: peeling wallpaper, cracked glass, water marks on woodwork, and a sinkhole in the floor. I hope they keep up with maintenance.
