The Dolphin Encounter at Genki Mura was the highlight of our Okinawa trip. It was a little pricey, but very well organized and worth the money. We also tried activities at the nearby Cultural Center, including Shisa-making, pottery, soba cooking, and making photo frames. There were lots of options, and we had a great time. The hotel is connected, more or less, to Motobu Genki Mura and the Cultural Center next door, all a short walk away and, I suppose, under the same owner. We stayed at Marine Piazza for two nights during an eight-day Okinawa vacation. Booking through the official hotel website, which is available in English, can include activity and meal deals. I found those better value than booking just the room through agoda or booking. Our Japanese-Western style room was really spacious, with two comfortable double beds and a big balcony facing the sea and the dolphin pools. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and simple English was enough to communicate. Breakfast was a good buffet with a wide choice of Okinawan and international food, the sort you’d expect at a four-star hotel. There were different seating options, including seats by windows with a sea view. Lunch came with our room package and there was plenty for the four of us, two adults and two kids.

Breakfast was great, and my husband and I enjoyed the Japanese meal. I’d read that it’s usually a buffet, but covid may have changed that. The hotel also lends DVDs for free in the lobby, if you spend enough time indoors to watch one. I picked this place because it looked kid friendly online, though covid may have affected my three-star rating. The kids’ playroom was closed, as was the pool, which looked like a community pool. The building felt a bit rundown and could use some sprucing up. Our room was spacious but seemed dusty when we arrived. It would’ve been nice to have a few toys in the room while the playroom was closed. There is a family room with toys, but I couldn’t find a way to book it online. Every room has a small balcony and an ocean view. You can see the dolphins from the room and watch them train. Outside, there’s a very small play area with scooters, bikes, and similar things for young children. There’s also a little stable with three small horses.

The hotel feels quite old, though the room is large and the bathroom has an old-fashioned style. Breakfast was still being served, but as closing time approached, staff began clearing away the food. That made us uncomfortable.

Every room has a lovely view of the sea and sunset, and I’d definitely visit again. It was a bit hard to find on foot from the bus station because Google’s walking directions are wrong. A car would be more suitable.

Lots of activities for young kids, and Genki village is easy to get to. This is the best family hotel next to genii village. A must for families with little kids, and I highly recommend the family rooms with their different decorations.
