It’s an old-school hotel with good facilities and really cheap single rooms. I never got the Wi-Fi working, and the LAN connection took about a dozen tries before it finally connected. The hair dryer in my room was an odd wall-mounted contraption with a timer like a microwave. I’m not sure I’d have worked out how to use it without being able to read the Japanese manual. That’s not really a complaint, though.

It’s OK, though a bit old and in need of renovation. Toyota Rental car is only 30m away, and Mc Donald's and Gusto are close enough to walk to.

We got to The Plaza Hotel Mutsu around 8pm, and at first we weren’t expecting much. The exterior looked a little old, and the area around it seemed quiet and run-down. The stay was better than that first impression. The room was comfortable, with a surprisingly thick tatami mattress and decent pillows. There’s a pillow selection in the lobby, too, if you want to pick one that suits you. The bathroom had a nice wood-style look and was well designed, and the bathtub was great for relaxing. The toilet had the usual Japanese comforts, including a heated seat, bidet, and auto flushing. I also liked the shampoo bar, where you can choose your own shampoo.
