It's an old building, but it's clean and the hospitality is unmatched. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful mountain view and a kotatsu that was great in winter. The landlady helped us when our car got stuck on the icy road. Both breakfast and dinner came with our stay. They were homemade with local ingredients and absolutely delicious. The gender-separated onsen uses natural spring water and is open 24/7. It was very hot, but lovely after a day on the snow. I've stayed in lots of hotels in Japan, and this is one of my best experiences. 10/10 recommend if you're after an authentic stay and want to support local businesses.
