Altopiano Myoko

The owner and his mum were so lovely that leaving Alto Piano was genuinely sad. I had one of my most memorable stays in Japan. Dinner was a 3-4 course meal, and breakfast included eggs, fresh fruit, coffee, salads, and their own freshly baked bread. The owner drove everyone to the ski resorts each morning after breakfast. It’s about a 15-minute walk, and there was enough snow for us to ski back to the front door in the evening. Our twin room had plenty of space. Coffee and tea were just outside the rooms, available before breakfast and through the day.

Run by the owner and his mother, this guesthouse made every day feel warm and cozy. The meals were delicious, and I got to try so many flavors that were new to me. The owner was kind, helpful, and welcoming to foreigners. Skiing was fantastic too. It was my first overseas stay that truly moved me, and one of the happiest, most unforgettable travel experiences I’ve had. 🥹

The place is old, but the food was perfect. I was on my way back from golfing and, since I like unplanned trips, I often choose where to stay that same day. The roast beef arrived on a whole plate and made quite an impression. I was also struck by the bagna cauda and all the different vegetables. Dinner was about 30 minutes late, but I didn’t mind. Dessert ice cream was delicious too. In the morning, I woke to the smell of bread from the kitchen. It was soft-baked, and you could really feel how much the owner cares about food.

The owner’s warm welcome put me at ease, and the meals were generous and delicious. They also gave us tasty boxed lunches for our hiking days. It’s a handy location for ski resorts, hiking, and hot springs.
