I live in Japan and have for many years, but at every Route-Inn I visit, staff ask to copy my ID. When I ask why, the answer is only, “it's the rule.” This time they asked for my passport, which I don't carry when traveling around Japan. After I said I didn't have it, they asked for my residence card. Asking for that already acknowledges that I live here, so why copy a resident's ID? Japanese people are residents too. Do they photocopy every guest's ID? If I were visiting Japan from another country for a short trip, I could understand a passport copy request. What I can't understand is why this keeps happening to me as a resident. It makes me wonder if Route-Inn employees are being told to copy the ID of anyone who doesn't look Japanese and doesn't have a Japanese name, regardless of whether they're a visitor or live here.

For 5650 Yen a night with breakfast included, we had a very comfortable stay at this three-star hotel. Service was awesome, the rooms were super clean, and free Wi-Fi was available. The bathroom had lots of technology, including a panel on the Comode. There's also a free public bath, a Japanese tradition that everyone can use. Breakfast had plenty for Japanese guests, with vegetables, non-veg dishes, and different soups. For Americans, there was bread with jelly, milk, Marjelin, and orange juice. The only downside was no water in the room, so you have to buy it from the vending machine or room service.

The breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, and the staff were thoughtful and polite. My room was clean and comfortable. I couldn't have asked for more.

Friendly staff, a clean room, and a convenience store and Kikyogaoka Station quite close by.

The hot bath is a real plus. Staff are kind, breakfast is good, and getting to the local factories, town, and other places is convenient.
