Hotel Sunrise Katsuura

There’s a lot to do at the hotel, and you can get free coffee and drinks. They also serve free Dandan noodles in the evening. I had the black sesame one, and it was so delicious. The service is great. I don’t know why people gave it two or three stars. I think it’s the best hotel in the area.

The room had a fantastic view, and the onsen was good. That’s about all I can say in its favor. We couldn’t get a meal because they required a booking the day before, and we’d been walking in the forest so couldn’t arrange that. They didn’t seem to care, or even want us there. We had to walk into town to find something to eat. They all need to be sacked.

The food was a big part of why I enjoyed my relaxing weekend. I loved both dinner and breakfast, and there was so much to eat. The onsen was another highlight, especially the women’s section with its outdoor tub and view. They’ll lend you a bike for short trips, too. Just know that the rooms don’t have showers, so you have to shower or bathe at the onsen.

There weren’t many places to choose from in Kii-Katsuura, and this was one of the few you could reach on foot from the station. It’s an old accommodation, with no private shower and a public onsen I found disappointing. Still, the sea view from the room and the comfortable tatami bedding made up for those downsides.
