Yuki looked after us so well and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay at awai. The room was beautiful, and the setting felt almost magical, making it a great base for visiting the five Togakushi Shrines. We had the included dinner and breakfast, and both were delicious. The chef’s skill was clear, and we feel lucky to have tried his cooking. It was a special stay we won’t forget, and we’d gladly recommend it.

The chef’s cooking at Awai really impressed us. We never realized soba could be so versatile, and the way local Togakushi ingredients and ideas are worked into the menu is lovely. Even the cauliflower dish showed so much imagination, with an incredible range of textures and flavors. The consommé was full of soul. It honestly feels like the chef has magic in his hands. Everything was delicious.

A great way to get away from mass tourism and have an authentic Japanese experience. Yuki is so welcoming and kind, and the chef’s food deserves a Michelin star. awai hotel is absolutely amazing.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and the location is handy for the major shrines. There’s a lovely energy to the place, and you can feel how much care went into making it. The food was amazing, some of the best I’ve had in Japan. Loved it.
